We made it!

After 24 hours on planes and in airports, we finally made it to Vienna.

Ella and Angus were fantastic on the flight and didn't complain at all about how long it took or how uncomfortable they were. I think there unlimited screen time helped! We all got a reasonable amount of sleep too, which was a bonus.

We landed in Vienna just after 7am and got to our hotel at 8am. It was too early to check in, so we did a quick change of clothes, left our bags and set off to explore.

Day 1 was about 30 degrees, so a hot change from winter in Melbourne. After sitting down and being cramped so so long, it was nice to walk and stretch our legs. A total of 14km wasn't a bad effort!

From our hotel, we walked along the Danube towards central Vienna. There were small playgrounds every few blocks, so they were a great way to break up the walking with something fun.

We ended up at the Prater amusement park, which was on Ella's list of places to go. The ferris wheel is one of the oldest in the world, built in 1897. It gave great views over the city.

Like the Royal Show, there were all sorts of rides, rollercoasters and sideshow games. We took the kids on their first rollercoaster. Angus loved it, Ella was a bit unsure, but there were squeals of delight from everyone.

After a bit of fun, we wandered more around the city. A lot of shops and restaurants are closed on a Sunday, but we managed to find ice cream and a supermarket to stock up on supplies.

By the time we got back to our hotel and were able to check in, we were exhausted. A quick swim in the pool to freshen up and we felt much better.

A simple dinner at the hotel and an early night and we'll be raring to go tomorrow!
