Today was our last full day in Budapest, so we decided to do some shopping! Ella and Angus each wanted to buy some presents for their friends and for themselves, so that's what we set out to find.
Sport obsessed Angus was desperate to have a Hungarian soccer top and to buy some knights, as he'd seen at the armoury museum in Vienna. We managed to find both at a big shopping centre and the market and he was a very happy boy!
Ella also managed to find some Hungarian doll pencils and painted Christmas decorations for her friends and some sparkly gold shoes for herself. Another happy shopper!
But I think my cherry shoes are the best!
After all that retail therapy, we were ready for some food, so we went back to the Central Market Hall for a traditional Hungarian lunch. Stuffed cabbage rolls, beef porkolt and a potato and sausage layer bake were the order of the day. And they were all delicious!
With full bellies, we wandered around the city a bit more, visited a local Aldi, which was so much better than ours with a fresh bakery and butcher, and ended up at a park for a short play.
Our final stop was at a fancy hotel (Gresham Palace) on the Danube, where we had an afternoon drink. Cocktails for mum and dad, mocktails for Ella and Angus. It was nice to go somewhere special, although Angus was more interested in watching the World Cup, which was live on TV!
After a simple dinner at the apartment, we stayed up to watch Spain and Portugal play in the World Cup. One of the advantages of being in the same time zone is that you don't have to get up in the middle of the night.
